A Christian fundy once asked me. “Sir, why do you deny God?”
“Well, I cannot deny something that doesn’t exist?” I answered in return.
“But God exist Sir.” He is the living God…The Bible said Blah! Blah! Blah! That’s why you need to worship Him or face the final judgment…Blah! Blah! Blah!
That’s the problem with street preachers; they love to tell you something that they have not the slightest idea what they’re talking about.
What the heck is a god anyway?
Etymologically speaking, god means something worthy of worship.
Really? So what makes god worthy of my unadulterated unfettered affection?
What is worship? What makes God a "god"?
Worship means praise, honour, or devotion. A feeling of profound love and admiration. Others define worship as being motivated by a sense that God is praise-worthy (Campbell Brown and Yujin Nagasawa). So what are the qualifications of a being that need to be admired, respected, honored and praised? Is the Judeo-Christian god-concept worthy of such? Does it have the qualities to be called a “god”?
According to Christians, God is worthy of worship because He created everything, which really doesn't answer anything. In the first place, what makes you really sure that their god created us not other gods? Some says that God is worthy of worship because of His divine attributes, namely his omnipotence, omniscience, absolute goodness and absolute perfection. But such answer is a circular argument. It doesn't answer why should we worship a being with such characteristics. Also, it still doesn't adds up why should you worship your Creator.
Is it about debt of gratitude? Is so, then it's not about unfettered devotion anymore.
Now, why should you worship a perfect being? If He's already perfect, why do He need to be worshipped?
The Judeo-Christian holy scripture also describe a being very opposite on what a worshipped being should be. Here are some few samples:
HE DECIEVES Jeremiah 20:7 Ezekiel 14:9 2 Thessalonians 2:11 - 12
HE IS NOT OMNIPOTENT OR ALL POWERFUL Judges 1:19
HE KILLS REPEATEDLY Numbers 16:35
HE PUNISHES BASTARDS FOR BEING ILLEGITIMATE Deuteronomy 23:2
HE SUPPORTS HUMAN SACRIFICE Exodus 22:29 - 30 Ezekiel 20:26
HE IS UNJUST 1 Samuel 6:19 Ezekiel 21:3 - 4
HE IS OFTEN JEALOUS Deuteronomy 5:9 Nahum 1:2
Those are just samples, you can read more of it. Just flip the pages of your Bible.
And you expect me to worship that monster?
As Robert Ingersoll said on page 237 in Volume 2 of his Works, "It is impossible for me to conceive of a character more utterly detestable than that of the Hebrew god." "It is impossible to conceive of a more thoroughly despicable, hateful, and arrogant being, than the Jewish god." "A false friend, an unjust judge, a braggart, a hypocrite, a tyrant, sincere in hatred, jealous, vain and revengeful, false in promise, honest in curse, suspicious, ignorant, infamous and hideous--such is the God of the Pentateuch."
Two pages later he said,
And in Some Mistakes of Moses he said,
It is interesting to note that the characteristic of a being worthy of worship just doesn't picture the god Christians wants me to acknowledge.
This Judeo-Christian "god-concept" just doesn't exist.
Chao!
