Here's a good example of a Christian's desperate move:
So is atheism is the most reasonable answer to the issue of evil and suffering? It is the easy answer; it is the cheap answer if we may use that word. It robs death's meaning and if death has no meaning, how lives can ultimately has meaning. So if one atheist says that life has no meaning and you're experiencing pain and suffering. Suicide may be the option since life has no meaning anyway. Atheism cheapens everything it touches. It robs life its purpose. It makes life very cheap and meaningless.
I think this is a statement of someone who is so desparate to win a debate. (sigh)
Accusing atheism as cheap is really a cheap shot. Well...looking closely on this statement will give an impresion that the author mearly likes to strike on anything he think he can hit, but it's mearly a base-less opinion. Let me clarufy the statement.
Atheism is not about morality. It is not a complete worldview - it is simply a stance on whether or not any gods exist. As such, I concede that atheism as such is consistent with any set of moral propositions, be they good or evil. The issue of morality falls on the issue if morality is independent to a god. That is the position of morality with atheism.
Since our "Christian friend" haven't got the slightest idea on what he's talking about, he rely on slander.
Now, again the Christian tries to plead his case. He started to talk about "meaning of life and death " and that atheism cheapens everything it touches. But what is the meaning of life and death?
Everyone has his/her own meaning of life. Nobody can tell you the meaning of your life. Meaning cannot be imposed from the outside - nothing that any outsider, human or divine, can force a life to be meaningful or to have a specific meaning.
As long as you have your value and character, your life has a meaning. Example, atheism is my meaning of life.
Now is looking for evidence make someone cheap? Is being rational cheap?
As an atheist, I never do good deeds for a reward, unlike you. Is that cheap? To summarized my stand, here's a testimony that was given to me by a friend:
"An Atheist loves himself and his fellowman instead of a god. An Atheist
accepts that heaven is something for which we should work now -- here on earth --
for all men together to enjoy. An Atheist accepts that he can get no help
through prayer, but that he must find in himself the inner conviction and strength
to meet life, to grapple with it, to subdueit and to enjoy it. An Atheist
accepts that only in a knowledge of himself and a knowledge of his fellow man can
he find the understanding that will help to a life of fulfillment."
Is that what you mean by a cheap life?
In an argument, you have to present facts, not "cheap shots"....hmmmm...Now, is that the best you can do?
